Review:

Smokey and the Bandit stars the recently passed on Burt Reynolds in its title role of the Bandit. The Bandit is commissioned by a couple of rich bootleggers to travel to Texarkana and pick up a truckload of Coors beer. Along the way he picks up Carrie (Sally Field) who is running out on an ill advised wedding and earns the pursuit of racist Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) as a result. The story is simple, but that isn’t its charm.

Burt Reynolds chews the scenery and Jackie Gleason is hilarious in his role as the sheriff. Sally Field plays off of Burt Reynolds well. The car chases are great and humorous. The bridge jumping scene is pretty much iconic. The 1977 Pontiac Trans Am that Reynolds drives is a classic and watching it move at 120 mph is a thing of beauty.

Verdict:

There really isn’t much to say about the movie, but it is a lot of fun. See it.
