Review:
The Meg opens with a rescue by Jonas Taylor. Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is a deep sea diver with excellent skills. Unfortunately, this dive doesn’t go as plan and Taylor loses two members of his crew. Taylor is derided as a madman that lost his nerve after he describes a massive force that crushes the submarine. He retires to Thailand to live above a bar and drink Changs until he dies.
Morris (Rainn Wilson) is a billionaire that has funded a massive undersea research center. They are trying to explore the deepest part of the ocean. When they do they discover the Megalodon. The Megalodon promptly starts wrecking everyone’s day. In order to save the day they go and get Taylor from self imposed exile. The action is mid-paced and ridiculous. It gets more ridiculous as the movie goes on and that is the charm of the movie. Parts of the action are ripped off straight out of Jaws and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace with twists that are amusing. Whenever you think that it can’t get more ridiculous it does.
Verdict:
The Meg is a fantastically campy giant shark movie. See it.
