Review:

Class of Nuke ‘Em High is about the town of Tromaville and its nuclear power plant. In short, it has a complete meltdown and gets in the town’s drinking water. The local high school being about a 1/4 of a mile away gets a healthy dose of radiation, but the plant manager denies that anything is wrong at all. A local gang called The Cretins grows marijuana on the grounds of the power plant that becomes infected with radioactive waste.

Some local kids including Warren (Gil Brenton) and Chrissy (Janelle Brady) smoke the devil’s lettuce for the first time and turn into radioactive drug fiends with irradiated alter egos. Warren uses his new found super powers to fight against The Cretins while they go about their malicious deeds. Chrissy has more horrific side effects as she gives birth to a horrific creature that soon inhabits the sewer systems of Tromaville. After The Cretins are thrown out of school, they hatch a plan for revenge. The costumes and characters are hilarious and ridiculous as usual. The special effects are also a lot of fun.

Troma films need to be ranked on their own personal scale, but I needed to get at least one Troma film into this movie marathon. Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead is an all-time classic Troma movie, but there are also absolute disasters among them like Surf Nazis Must Die which is a boring mess. Class of Nuke ‘Em High falls somewhere in the middle. There are stretches that are certainly very entertaining and there are stretches that have lulls despite the movie’s short running time.

Verdict:

Class of Nuke ‘Em High falls short of being a classic, but is a good creature feature in the Troma library. See it.
