Review:
Moonrise Kingdom stars Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as teenage love interests in a small island community. Both of them give their respective families a hard time and decide to run away together. Sam’s (Jared Gilman) scout troop is deputized to search for him at the same time Suzy’s (Kara Hayward) parents realize she is missing and call the police.
Police Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis) attempts to mediate between Mr. and Mrs. Bishop (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand) and Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton) as they search for the missing children. There are a few minor roles that are interesting, but on the whole Willis, Murray, Norton, and McDormand don’t have enough screen time.
The scenes between Gilman and Hayward range from amusing to boring. The whole things works at a very slow pace and is not as visually stimulating as some of Wes Anderson’s other movies.
Verdict:
It is a decent Wes Anderson movie, but not his best work. Take it or leave it.
