Review:

Lights Out is a decent horror movie despite its overriding lack of logic. Rebecca is a young adult living above a tattoo parlor and entertaining various love interests. She left home years ago after her father left and her mother went crazy. She gets back in touch with her mother after her younger brother receives attention from child protective services. He fell asleep in class and CPS is concerned about him not receiving enough sleep. His stepfather recently died in a horrible work place “accident” and his mother has once again stopped taking her medication.

A ghostly figure named Diana appears. Diana’s origins are hinted at, but come together in a round about way that doesn’t really make a lot of sense. She can only come out in the dark, yet she seems to possess the ability to suppress electrical current as well. None of her abilities are ever explained and when the mystery of her arrival is finally put in concrete it makes even less sense somehow. With that said, there are some moderately good scares to be had during the movie’s exceptionally short running time even though Diana doesn’t look so hot in the light and the family drama is fairly shallow.

Verdict:

It was a decent if unremarkable horror movie. Take it or leave it.
