Review:
The Babysitter opens with Cole played by Judah Lewis displaying a distinct lack of masculinity while getting a flu shot. We quickly discover that Cole is not very well liked by his fellow students. That is when the titular babysitter played by Samara Weaving appears on the seen slashing a bully’s tires to make them go away. She gives strong advice about how to treat bullies, namely kicking them in the dick.
Cole’s mom and dad are cool. They renovate a basement full of spiders and show him how to do donuts in cars. However, they constantly go away leaving him feeling rejected. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the house. They have a chicken couch. A fucking chicken couch! Let that sink in. Initially seeming like the greatest babysitter of all time things get strange after bedtime. But, strange in all the right ways. The movie is short, to the point, and in the vein of Stranger Things a homage to 80s nostalgia.
Verdict:
Does it make perfect sense? No. But, the characters are hilarious, the story is ridiculous, and the resolution is bonkers. It is like the Home Alone of horror movies. See it.
